About the vessel

“Ultimatum” is a 50ft racing trimaran originally designed and built to compete in singlehanded offshore races. Construction began by Pascal Quinitin in France in 2000, finally launching in 2002 as “Jean Stalaven” (#77) in time for the Route du Rhum transatlantic race.

This trimaran is constructed entirely from carbon fibre, weighing in at only 4000kg fully rigged. A 21m rotating carbon-fibre wing mast means the highly efficient, powerful rig can see the vessel out-perform the wind speed and, under the right conditions, reach speeds in excess of 25kts.

Day-sailing experience

Poole harbour provides the ideal base with easy access to the open sea and plenty of space inside the harbour for mooring. Depending on the conditions we’ll take in some of the landmarks along the coast between Christchurch, Bournemouth , the Needles and “Old Harry” rocks and the Jurassic coast.

FAQs

How many people can sail onboard?
The vessel is commercially coded for 8 which is made up of 3 crew and 5 guests.

Do I need to be an experienced sailor?
No prior sailing experience is necessary, our Crew of pro sailors ensure your safety at all times whilst getting you as involved in the sailing as you wish. It is our aim to help everybody take a turn at steering.

What facilities are there onboard?
There’s no getting round the fact that “Ultimatum” was designed as a race-boat and as such, on-board facilities are minimal. Having said that a camping toilet has been installed for your convenience in an enclosed area of the cabin.

What do I need to bring with me?
We provide all safety equipment and have waterproof jackets and trousers available. A sandwich lunch and non-alcoholic drinks are provided. Be sure wear trainers or deck shoes and bring an extra layer of clothing and suncream/hat/glasses.

Alderney channel crossing itinerary

The island of Alderney lies 60 nautical miles South of Poole putting it in range for a long day-sail. This is a favourite with the crew as it gives a taste of the long-range capability of the vessel and a chance to visit a stunning location. This trip requires consecutive days of favourable weather so may require a degree of flexibility to organise.

09:00 Meet at Salterns Marina (40 Salterns Way, Poole BH14 8JR)

09:30 Safety briefing onboard, slip mooring and motor out of harbour
